Questions about speed dating and reservations

Your events show under "Scam Events" on Eventbrite. Are you scamming people?

Not at all!

If any event description on Eventbrite contains the word "scams" or "scam" in any context (regardless of the organizer), then it appears under "Scam Events" in search results for the word "Scam". We raised this issue with the Better Business Bureau.

Can you accept tickets obtained from a different website?

We don't accept anything from any other company as proof of payment.

People were scammed from utilizing 3rd-party websites. In late 2024, folks lost a combined total of over $140,000 after buying tickets to Taylor Swift Era's Tour.

Learn how to avoid an Eventbrite and TicketMaster scam here.

Many 3rd-party companies (particularly Eventbrite and PayPal) tend to hold onto money until days after events end. This prevents us from supplying drinks or refunds in a timely manner.

How many people could I meet at an event?

We predict 7 - 15 people. It's based on how many folks register and actually show up.

Are there tickets left?

Visit our venue, or city web pages. Choose "get info" for an event to view its ticket availability. If we're asked directly, then our answer becomes inaccurate if anyone buys a ticket shortly after.

Is my event running?

If a venue owner cancels it, then answer is no. Otherwise, we wait until hours before the event sales ending time to obtain a definite answer. We want to give last-minute people a shot at buying tickets.

When will I be on the official attendee list?

Those paying by Interac E-transfer can expect a delay of 1 - 48 hours because we manually receive money first. Folks paying with cash must wait 1 - 7 days as our bank must validate all cash deposits. For all other electronic payment methods, we'll add you once our processor approves payment (which is usually a few seconds following order form completion with proper financial information).

Will you hold a seat for me at no cost?

We reserve your seats once you enter checkout. If payment isn't completed within the time shown in checkout, then we'll no longer reserve your spot.

Is a cell number needed to join?

Anyone can sign up with a working email address OR phone number. Specifying both increases the chance that the participant can receive timely event news.

My phone company is unlisted. Why?

We support major Canadian mobile phone providers. If your provider has a parent company, then specify it instead.

Questions about online payments

Why must speed dating tickets be purchased in advance?

We must prepare venue staff for every running event which includes providing a group count. We would rather avoid creating a large lineup of people at the door while potentially turning a handful away.

Why do you charge non-refundable service fees but Eventbrite organizers do not?

Sources including one from Reddit and from tickets candy now claim Eventbrite no longer refunds fees on canceled events.

Eventbrite has likely performed unethical tactics on their consumers to offset costs that credit card networks charge them. Over 1,500 reports regarding their shady practices are found on Trustpilot and Better Business Bureau

Our fees cover ongoing business costs which include: internet, transit, physical media material, room bookings, research, mobile service, payment processing, etc. If we paid all fees, plus refund everyone in full for every canceled event, then we may face extreme debt.

Despite the fees, our refund policy is very generous compared to several local competitors that offer no refunds (according to their own websites) for event dates that become canceled.

I bought tickets to your event from a 3rd-party at high prices. Can you refund the difference?

We only issue refunds for anything purchased directly on this website, and in certain cases, on Eventbrite. If you paid a higher price for tickets on a 3rd-party website, then consider initiating a chargeback against that company since you are likely being scammed.

I did everything right but Apple pay will not work here. Why not?

You must use a modern Apple product (example: Iphone, Ipad, Imac, etc) with Touch ID, and Safari 17.5 or higher installed.

Ensure your payment card and financial institution are both supported by Apple.

Check that your card has sufficient credit and that your bank did not freeze it.

Issues you raise regarding Apple Pay (except for payment confirmation) will be forwarded to our payment processor. We cannot run reliable tests because we do not own apple devices. We cannot give an estimate on if/when your issue about Apple Pay is processed.

Why did I get two receipts for one order?

For payments using any method other than Interac E-transfer or cash, you'll receive these receipts:

  1. one from us detailing your order, plus
  2. one by our payment processor indicating the card brand used and total amount charged.

You are only charged one grand total per order.

What payment methods are accepted? Is Paypal Accepted?

We accept MasterCard, Visa, Union Pay International, Interac E-transfer, American Express, JCB, Discover Full Service, and cash. We also accept payments through Google Pay, visa-debit and mastercard-debit cards. Setup an appointment to pay by cash.

We cannot accept PayPal. They can keep incoming funds for 21 days per their terms. If everyone paid with PayPal then drinks may not be acquired for everyone because our payment could arrive 3 weeks following the event. That's if they don't scam us like they have to others. They also deduct higher fees than what we currently pay per sale.

Questions about credit/debit cards

Why am I charged higher than my order total?

You may see an unexpected high "pending" charge if between the time you submit your card info and the time payment was supposed to be approved, either:

  1. Your device has lost power, or
  2. Your internet connection was interrupted, or
  3. Your card issuer declined a transaction after approving it.

If you didn't get a detailed receipt from us, or a confirmation of the total payment from our payment processor, then we received no payment. Any pending money in this case should be made available for your use within 7-10 calendar days.

If the excessive amount is not "pending" or not on-hold, then send us your order details and the last 4 digits of your card number. If we discover that we received payment, then we will put you in applicable events, and you might be asked to use a different email provider so future communication does not get interrupted.

Why did my card get declined?

We decline transactions when the card:

  1. info supplied during checkout is wrong,
  2. is expired,
  3. was deactivated by the card issuer,
  4. has insufficient funds available, and/or
  5. was excessively used within a short amount of time.

If you believe reason 5 applies, contact your card issuer ASAP as someone might have charged your card, and/or used your card details without your consent.

I want tickets. My card works everywhere but here. Why?

One card can be used a limited number of times in a short period to purchase tickets. If this is your very first attempt to pay, then request a new card number ASAP, as your card details might have been shared with bad people.

Large orders are capped to reasonable amounts to prevent any fraud from occurring.

I'm not giving this site my number. How do I pay?

Pay by Interac E-Transfer, Google Pay or cash by appointment. Google Pay also saves your card information so payment is doable in a few taps or clicks.

Questions about trust, and speed dating ticket refunds

Why did you cancel my ticket and issue a super low refund before I was contacted first?

You chose the express ordering option (by leaving go express checked during checkout) and you did not contact us before the sales ended for your event. Once sales ended, we canceled your event (likely due to low enrollment).

Express ordering was invented with convenience in mind. This means customer initially provides less info, and (by default) we quickly issue a refund should the event cancel, so the refund can arrive to the customer faster.

The higher service fee also applies because the refund occurs after the cancellation of only ONE event, especially if the purchase was made a few days before sales closed for that event.

If an event won't run, why not postpone it and keep folks on-board?

Many speed dating companies embrace that idea given their harsh refund policies. This forces customers to decide between potentially skipping important functions (example: paid work) to attend speed dating, and losing full ticket prices.

We issue refunds on canceled events unless customers request transfers to our future events. If a transfer is requested, customers have the choice from our later events they wish to attend.

Once my event canceled, I requested a refund and got $0. Why?

We predict funds will arrive 1 - 10 calendar days from when refund was issued. Actual time depends on the processing times of each bank. Weekends and official holidays are not counted as business days.

If during checkout, you didn't choose to opt for a refund upon event cancellation then 4 extra days waiting time may apply. This is because we're awaiting your response after we asked you to decide what future events to transfer your tickets to or opt for refunds.

If your eligible refund has not arrived within 18 calendar days, let us know and we'll conduct a deep money investigation.

If event cancels, when do refunds start?

If ticket refund was chosen during checkout, or your order is an express order, then refund begins on the same day we cancel the event.

Otherwise, we first email you an option to move any applicable ticket holders to a later event or take a refund. If we receive no reply within 96 hours, then a refund will begin.

If you paid with cash, book an appointment with us for your refund.

Do you offer refunds for medical emergencies?

For regular events, we void a ticket and may issue a refund once:

  1. You request one no later than 5 days before the time that sales close for the event you signed up for, OR
  2. We canceled the event, and you request a refund.

Other than above, we will issue NO refund.

Can I trust you?

Yes. We go out of our way to ensure we create awesome events. In November 2024, we literally PAID a deposit to secure an event room at Splitsville in Hamilton. Why else would we pay a company money for a room?

Who is your payment processor?

We used Square from mid-2023, (a well known payment processor in Canada) until in year 2025, they terminate many accounts including ours for silly reasons including us not consenting to biometric face scans through third-parties to re-verify identification.

We're now with Clover. Their logo will show at the bottom of the payment screen.

Where are refunds deposited?

Back to your original payment method. If that method is no longer available (this is rare), then you'll be contacted to discuss ways on issuing refunds which may include a payment by Interac E-transfer. Please make an appointment with us if order was paid with cash.

Is event info available at the door or from venue staff?

We first obtain approval from one venue owner (or his/her designate) to schedule events on a regular basis, then new events will appear online.

Many owners prohibit external advertisements on their properties. We'll set firm dates with venue owners booking systems each time we obtain enough people to run events (hence why sales ending dates precede event nights). This, and/or venue owners own decisions may cause venue staff to receive little or no event information.

Why don't you set firm event dates with venue owners directly?

A restaurant owner told us that people book and cancel events often. Excessively cancelling bookings at one venue could stop the venue owner from making maximum profit because he/she could instead use the held-up event space for a guaranteed function that generates higher profit. Our events would be guaranteed (to run) only if sufficient tickets are sold in time, and only then will we set a firm event date with the venue owner.

How are drinks/food affordable if you're paid days after event ends?

We're paid in full before events begin, and we follow a budget. We utilize a special payment processor that sends funds to our bank 24-72 hours from when a ticket is purchased. This allows us to buy food/drink on event night.

Organizers that sell tickets exclusively on Eventbrite will be paid 3+ days after their running event ends.

You're not on Google Maps. Is your business real?

Yes. Google Maps are for businesses that have an official physical building with their name/logo that people can view in person. We cannot qualify for Google Maps because we don't have a physical building to our name. To save you money, We will remain as a mobile business that rents space from various venues to run our events.

Questions about Interac E-transfer payments

Why weren't you accepting E-transfer payments in late January 2026?

Our bank was experiencing random technical difficulties with its online platform which preventing us from processing Interac E-transfer refunds in a timely fashion, however the bank has improved since then.

If you have paid by Interac E-transfer, please allow us 10 calendar days to process any refund you are eligible for. If we still cannot process the refund, we will contact you to arrange a refund a different way (example: cash in-person).

Why charge a non-refundable service fee now?

It is time to be consistent, and set one service fee across the board. This change affects almost nobody since most people pay by credit card.

How long does a refund take?

Best guess is now 10 days due to malfunctions with our banks online system in January 2026. If auto-deposit is enabled on your account, then waiting time will be a bit shorter.

I waited weeks and I never got my refund via Interac E-transfer. Why?

Let's assume auto-deposit for your bank is active. When we issue refunds by Interac E-transfer, they complete within a few hours. Funds may be inaccessible because your:

  • Interac E-transfer email address was changed without our knowledge, or
  • Bank account was used illegally, or
  • Bank holds deposits for several days, or
  • Interac E-transfer email address is no longer connected to your bank account.

Another refund won't be issued if we determine the original refund is inaccessible to you because of you and/or your banks actions, however, we can provide proof that we issued refunds. We strongly recommend you contact your bank for better information on this matter.

If you don't have auto-deposit enabled, then we'll send you a question where the answer to it becomes your password to access the funds.

Matchmaker membership and service Questions

Why is payment needed to see my potential match in Toronto?

We are in the Greater Hamilton area. There are high costs to travel to remote areas like Toronto to provide a service.

Is the matchmaker service refundable?

It's partly refundable if a refund is requested between the purchase time and twelve hours after it, we cannot offer a potential match once your membership expires, or your potential match fails to appear at the blind date.

How do you afford to charge less than competitors?

People deserve a perfect partner without feeling the need to enter bankruptcy amid today's affordability crisis. Why pay thousands of dollars when you can give us a try for alot less?

How long do memberships last?

Three months, A Membership can be extended if another one is purchased within 7 days after when the previous one expires.

Floater tickets Questions

How do speed dating and floater tickets differ?

When you buy a speed dating ticket, you must select a date and venue you want to attend. For each cancellation, you must repeat this process or collect a refund.

Manually picking a new event is never required when you have a floater ticket. Instead, we aim to place you in an event compatible to your age, needs and availability (that runs).

Why do floater tickets cost more?

We put in extra effort to find a perfect event for floater ticket holders. Efforts include inserting event dates to our calendar, thus raising the chance you'll enter running event.

Can I get a refund for events that cancel?

If over 30 days have passed since you've bought a floater ticket and we can't invite you to a running event, then we'll issue a refund.

Why must I disclose my age?

As our speed dating events are designed for specific age ranges, we must ensure not to insert you into an event where most participants are significantly younger or significantly older than you.

Can I transfer floater tickets?

Yes as long as you provide us necessary information about the ticket receipient.

Questions about 3rd-party promotions

My ticket includes something I don't want. Can I get money back?

No. We do not offer refunds nor do we provide money solely because you do not wish to accept the bonus item.

Can I make adjustments to the free thing I received?

This decision is solely made by the 3rd-party. Please contact us.

Other Questions

📞   Can I learn about your services over the phone?

Support is not available by phone for two reasons:

First, we offer better support by email and in-person by appointment.

In todays affordability crisis, we could either:

  1. Copy competitors ideas of refusing to issue refunds (just to afford phone service), or
  2. Issue appropriate refunds for non-rendered services.

We always choose the latter because we care about our customers.

💸 Can I join if I pay only $1 now and the rest 4 months later?

Because we charge canadian dollars, and most prices are below the $35 threshold, we cannot make BNPL (buy-now-pay-later) available.

A way to make your ticket cost $1 is to successfully refer many friends to us (at least 20-30). Then you'll score cash back during the event.

🏪 How come competitors always run events and you're not?

We find it ironic how people claim competitors that charge more money obtain more sales despite their overly strict refund policies. Could it be that competitors use their friends to fill in seats for all events to give the illusion of fast selling events? This paper in english explains why refund policies from three local competitors are actually bad.

If you consider the ongoing affordability crisis people face since the COVID-19 era, you'll wonder why people would pay higher for the same service that we charge less for.

👬👭 How many singles have signed up?

We're unable to answer this question because singles can register at any time. Speed dating sales closing dates can arrive before you know it, and matchmaker members can change anytime. If we can correctly predict the weather forecast every hour, then this question can be answered.

Why use Eventbrite if they're not trustworthy?

They have taken a huge monopoly over the online event industry, thereby shoving many organizers websites (including us) farther down search engine result pages.

Folks that hate reading prefer accessing the very first items in result pages which often are Eventbrite pages.

🎟🎟🎟 Can I buy tickets for many venues in one transaction?

Yes. You can now mix tickets of various events together in your own virtual shopping bag.

📧 I'm not getting emails, how will I receive important event info?

Sadly, some email providers (particularly Microsoft) block innocent emails. However, we have two options for you:

Choose a better email provider like Gmail, provide us with your full name and original email address you used for registration and we'll update our records accordingly.

Alternatively, you can check with the venue staff after sales close to see if we told them the event will run. If the event becomes canceled, then you will receive a refund, unless you have already instructed us to transfer you from the canceled event to a future one.

👫 Who are your website visitors?

Unfortunately we have NO information about that.
